Start at the receiver
Determine whether the receiving tank is vented or pressurized, and identify the actual discharge point relative to liquid level. Receiver pressure and the liquid head at that point can change during operation. A route that works into an empty receiver may behave differently as the receiver fills. Include the maximum credible receiving condition in the selection basis.
Add static elevation and dynamic losses
Static pressure for a liquid column is Δp = ρgΔz. For illustration, a 10 m lift with density 1,400 kg/m³ corresponds to approximately 137 kPa, or 1.37 bar, before friction and receiver pressure are included. Use consistent units. Pipe friction, bends, valves, strainers and reducers add further losses that depend on liquid behavior and flow.
Check the utility at the skid
The compressor-header reading does not necessarily represent pressure available at the vessel during transfer. Filters, regulators, hoses and distribution piping cause losses, especially during high flow. Ask for minimum dynamic pressure at the connection and the available flow at that pressure. Use the actual vessel and component operating limits; do not treat a 1.0 MPa design reference as a universal setpoint.
Review the transient conditions
A steady calculation is only the starting point for a cyclic transfer system. Valve switching, gas breakthrough, a blocked route or a receiver permissive changing state can produce different conditions. The approved controls and pressure-protection design must address the relevant scenarios. Pressure budgets support selection; relief sizing and operating limits require the responsible engineer and applicable equipment rules.
