Replacement decision in brief
A pump replacement changes the surfaces and components that must be cleaned. Review the vessel, valves, product lines and receiver together; do not assume that an existing pump CIP recipe transfers unchanged. Specify drainage, cleaning conditions, valve sequencing and evidence of cleaning effectiveness for the revised installation.
State the cleaning objective
Identify the product residues, allergen or cross-contamination concerns, maximum hold time and cleaning frequency. Specify whether the requirement is routine soil removal, a validated hygienic changeover or another defined result. The required evidence depends on the plant process and quality system.
Trace cleaning through the equipment
Review spray coverage inside the vessel, valve-cavity exposure, instrument connections and product piping. Determine which valves change position during cleaning and where liquid returns or drains. A cleaning route must not unintentionally expose the compressed-air distribution to product or cleaning fluid. Check compatibility of seals, coatings and instruments with the proposed chemicals and temperatures.
Define utilities and sequencing
Document cleaning flow, pressure, temperature, chemistry, duration and the available return capacity. These values come from the cleaning design and validation basis, not from a generic website recipe. Interlocks should distinguish production, cleaning and maintenance states so that an incorrect valve command cannot mix the routes.
Validate and retain the records
Factory inspection can confirm the arrangement, but the plant may need site trials using the relevant soil and acceptance method. Agree responsibilities before purchase. Keep records of the validated cycle and approved changes. Surface polish and a CIP connection are useful design features; neither alone proves that the assembled system achieves the required cleaning result.
