Replacement decision in brief
Removing the rotating pump shaft seal changes the maintenance plan; it does not eliminate maintenance. Identify valve-seat wear, actuator service, sensor fouling, air-filter work and pressure-equipment inspections in the new system. Compare these tasks with the actual repair history of the existing gear or rotary lobe pump before assigning a financial benefit.
Create the asset list
Include process valves, pneumatic actuators, air-treatment elements, level and pressure instruments, the control cabinet and the vessels. List the receiving and vent equipment within the agreed maintenance boundary. Each item should have its manual, identification and recommended inspection or service basis.
Use condition and service experience
Routine observations can include external leakage, abnormal cycle duration, filter differential pressure and valve-response trends. Inspection frequency depends on the product, cycle count, environment and manufacturer requirements. Do not take a website interval as a substitute for the equipment-specific maintenance instructions or required pressure-system examinations.
Plan safe access and parts
Ensure service points can be reached and isolated using the approved procedure. Identify long-lead components and a practical initial spare package. Valve-seat kits, actuator parts and filter elements may have different storage and compatibility requirements. Keep the actual part number and material specification with the spare list.
Measure the maintenance outcome
Compare planned service hours, unplanned stops and product loss with the previous installation on the same annual basis. A successful redesign may replace frequent shaft-seal work with less disruptive planned valve and instrument service. Describe that result accurately. Calling the entire system maintenance-free would hide the work needed to preserve its reliability and compliance.
